The Story & Purpose of Forge Camp

WHERE IT ALL STARTED

A Movement Born in Latvia
In 2008, the Latvian Baptist Union faced a significant crisis: among its 88 churches, only 66 pastors remained, and the average pastor was 70 years old. This created a severe leadership vacuum that threatened the future of the church and sparked a movement to address the growing need for new, younger leaders.

In response, two pastors named Peteris and Kaspars launched Draft Camps (in the USA, called Forge Camp) with a bold mission: Raise up a new generation of godly men and future leaders. The impact was remarkable:

  • 2,000+ young men have completed Draft Camp

  • The Baptist Union now has 100 pastors and 95 churches

  • The average pastor age has dropped to 40

  • Over half of current pastors came through Draft Camp

  • Alumni now serve as leaders in ministry, business, family, and community

This transformation is the foundation on which Forge Camp is built.

WHY FORGE CAMP MATTERS

The Critical Window: Ages 14–19
Researchers agree that the teenage years are pivotal—shaping identity, direction, and long-term character. During this season, many boys quietly wrestle with questions like Who am I? What is my purpose? What kind of man will I become? Forge Camp is intentionally designed to speak into this crucial stage of development. We believe young men thrive when they are challenged, surrounded by brotherhood, guided by mentors, and invited into a vision bigger than themselves.

OUR MISSION

Build Godly Men - Forge Camp exists to equip young men to:

  • Understand the gospel

  • Develop deep, Christ-like character

  • Discover their calling and purpose

  • Catch a vision for the church and leadership

LEARNING BY EXPERIENCING, NOT LECTURE-BASED PROGRAM

Forge Camp is an immersive, demanding, and transformative experience. Participants learn by stepping into:

  • Challenging physical activities

  • Leadership assignments

  • Team exercises

  • Mentorship conversations

  • Real-time feedback from trained leaders

Every activity is designed to stretch young men toward maturity, resilience, and responsibility.

MOUNTAIN-TOP EXPERIENCE | LIFETIME JOURNEY

One week of camp alone cannot develop lasting character. That’s why Forge Camp also provides:

  • Year-round mentoring

  • Ongoing spiritual support

  • Continued challenges and growth opportunities

We walk with young men long after camp ends, investing in their growth throughout the entire year.

WHO IS FORGE CAMP FOR?

Forge Camp is not for the perfect — it is for the willing. We look for young men who are:

  • Called more than polished

  • Courageous more than comfortable

  • Responsible more than experienced

  • Ready to be sent, not simply sent by others
